My name is Lindsey and I’m what you might call an artist. I like to say that I make things pretty whether it’s an apple tart, a well composed photo, words on a page or a polka dot napkin. I’m a passionately creative person and that quality extends into all aspects of my life. I enjoy baking, cooking, writing, photography, art and design.

This small space that I’ve reserved here is for me to share my creativity with people like you, to share what little experience I have in the things that I love and, in the process, discover more.

I used to be one of those grown ups that hadn’t decided what she wants to be when she grows up. I had so many interests and so much passion that, at times, I was spread a little thin. I was disjointed, distracted and discouraged. I dabbled in art school, tried my hand at professional crafting and suffered through unrewarding retail jobs. I realized that I knew all along what I wanted to do with my life.

I used to lock myself in my bedroom when I was an angst-filled teenager and scribble in stacks of spiral ringed notebooks. I pulled story after story, character after character out of my imagination and brought them to life on the page. I was certain then that I wanted to be a writer, but somewhere along the road I’d forgotten.

I love art, but there are many forms of art. I take the same eye for detail and perfectionism when I’m polishing off a chapter and apply it to frosting a cake, composing a shot, or sewing a bunting banner. So I make jewelry, I bake cupcakes, I toss pizza dough, I write novels because that is my art. I paint pretty pictures with my pen, my piping bag, and my needle-nose pliers.

I’m not your average artist, but this is what works for me. This is what I love. This I share with you.

I don’t have any formal training in photography but what I do know I picked up from my dad who is a professional quality photographer. My photography improves everyday as I continue to learn new tips and tricks.

All my photography is done in indirect natural light on my kitchen table. My camera is a Canon EOS Digital Rebel SLR and I shoot with a 50mm macro lens as well as a 18-55mm lens.

The program I use for editing purposes is Photoshop CS5. I try to keep my photos and their composition as natural and original as possible. The only editing I do is some cropping and light leveling.

All writing and photography on Hot Polka Dot are under copyright. If you would like to use any of my photographs please contact me first.
