Raise A Glass!

I've never been the sort of person who surrounds herself with hundreds of friends. But the few close friends that I do have, that stood the test of time and trials of distance, I will treasure always.

If you're lucky in life, you have that one person who really gets you. That one person who can make a five hour marathon video chat seem like minutes. That one person who makes sure you're up to date on all the prettiest songs. That one person you know you can call when you need to gush about Downton Abbey. That one person who curiously and unknowingly buys exactly the same sweater as you from over three thousand kilometres away. That one person who not only isn't afraid to make the funniest faces with you, but also doesn't object to posting the photos on facebook. That one person who would never criticize you for eating an entire bag of Nibs. That one person who knows when to laugh with you and when to cry. That one person who never judges you.

And if, like me, you're truly blessed, you might have more than one person like that in your life, but it's important to have at least one.

Today's recipe is inspired by my person, my best friend, Cornelia. When she introduced me to this smoothie my head exploded. It has the cool sweetness of frozen banana, the bitterness of cocoa, the floral notes of honey, all grounded by the smooth bite of peanut butter.

And get this...

...It's actually good for you!

I think this might be a Hot Polka Dot first. So let's raise a glass! Preferably a glass filled with chocolate peanut butter banana goodness.

Peachy Keen.

I have to apologize for a serious lack of yummy posts in the past few weeks. I have been busying myself with preparations to visit Ontario in less than two weeks. It's been almost two years since I've visited my family and friends and I can't be more excited!

What makes this trip extra special is that I'll be maid of honour and dessert caterer for my friend, Lisa's wedding. Lots and lots of cupcakes. Three different flavours. Three different cakes. Three different fillings. Three different frostings. And adorable toppers and baking cups to tie them all together. I'm having dreams about cupcakes to say the very least. Don't worry, I'll keep you all up to date as the deliciousness unfolds!

For now, let's switch gears. I thought it was fate when I saw these Ontario peaches at the store begging me to buy them. It seemed only right that I get a little Ontario preview and share it with all of you. There's nothing better than a fresh Ontario peach, fuzzy and bursting with bright flavour.

I've been on such a peach kick lately. Peaches in my yogurt, peaches in my hand, peaches and whipped cream, peach smoothies, peaches in my mouth. Then suddenly I remembered, oh yeah I have a food blog don't I? So why not share some of the peachy goodness with all of you?

Here is the first of a few peach installments to come. Honey Peach Smoothies!

Sunsets and Suntans.

It's officially Summertime. There's always time when we're on Summertime. It's like a magical time zone where days are long and nights are cool. Where sunsets are made of cotton candy clouds and violet watercolour skies. Where the grass is green and the flowers greet you with a smile. Where the popsicles are always cold and the the sun is always hot.

The sun wakes up at 5am and doesn't go to sleep until 11pm. You can stay in bed til noon and still have enough time in the day to get everything done. People mow their lawns at 11pm and go grocery shopping at 7:30am.

Nap in the comfort of the warm sun. Let your ice cream melt. Roll down the windows and let the warm breeze get tangled in your hair. Get a sunglasses tan. Have dinner at 9pm. Track sand into the car. Get dirt under your nails. Who cares? We're on Summertime!

In the spirit of lazy Summer days I've made Cherry Almond White Chocolate Ice Cream. Pink and sweet just like a sunset.

Simple Pleasures.

Last night my dinner consisted of a handful of popcorn and half a Toblerone. Unhealthy, yes, but you have to marvel at the restraint it requires not to eat the entire Toblerone. Tonight's dinner was by far an improvement.

And by improvement I mean I ate it all. Since when have you not been able to finish a bowl of delicious ice cream? Granted it normally follows the meal instead of preceding or encompassing it, but hey I'm proud of myself.

Anyone who's ever been to Dairy Queen knows I'm telling the truth when I speak of the beauty that is the Peanut Buster Parfait. I wouldn't lie about such things.

Layers of creamy soft serve vanilla ice cream sandwiched between thick hot fudge and salted peanuts. Just when you think it's all gone you break through to a whole new layer of chocolate peanut bliss.

Now you might be wondering how on earth you could possibly make that any better. Well it's simple, my friends. First you make your very own French Vanilla Ice Cream, you top it with homemade Hot Fudge Sauce, salted peanuts and, the crowning glory, sliced bananas. Aren't the simplest things the best things?
